Frequently asked questions
Will the victim know it's a fake?+
That's the whole point — they shouldn't. The ebook looks exactly like a genuine edition: correct title, author name, proper formatting. The puns are inserted seamlessly, in the author's style. A careful reader might notice something is off. Most won't until it's far too late.
What file format do I get?+
You get an EPUB file, which opens in any ebook reader — Kindle (via the free Send to Kindle app), Apple Books, Kobo, and most reading apps. We recommend sending it via email, which is exactly what a real ebook purchase looks like.
How long does it take?+
About 2 minutes from payment to download link in your inbox. The AI reads and annotates the entire book, then generates a properly formatted ebook. We'll email you the link as soon as it's ready.
Can I preview what the puns will look like?+
Yes — scroll up and click any mischief level to see a sample pun in the style of your chosen book. The actual puns in your order are freshly generated each time, so every copy is unique.
What's the difference between mischief levels?+
Subtle: one single pun, hidden at the very end of the book. Your victim reads 300 pages in complete innocence, then gets ambushed on the last page. Mischievous: a pun at the end of every chapter — they'll start to suspect something by chapter three. Chaos: puns woven throughout the entire book, escalating from subtle to completely unhinged. By the final chapter, the prose is barely holding together.
What's the 'real ending' option?+
If you enable it, we add a bonus page at the very end of the ebook with the actual, unmodified ending of the book. So it's still a prank, but not a cruel one — they get to read the real thing. Optional, but recommended if you want to stay friends.
Are these really public domain?+
Yes. All six titles — Pride and Prejudice (1813), Frankenstein (1818), The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1892), Dracula (1897), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890), and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886) — are well past copyright protection in the US and most territories. The puns are entirely our fault.
